Welcome to RTJC! *RTJC is only able to serve homeowners in Jersey City only
In 1973, a small group of people in Midland, Texas, realized a growing
need in their community. Homes in their community had fallen into
disrepair and their neighbors could not afford to fix them on their own. The
group volunteered their time and skills to rehabilitate the homes of their
neighbors. Realizing the potential impact of this work, the group formed
Christmas in April, with the intent of performing repair and rehabilitation
work in their community every April. We opened the national office in
1988 and became Rebuilding Together. Rebuilding Together Jersey City
was started in 1991.
Using money from grants and corporate donations, once a year, we
renovate homeowner owned houses in Jersey City only using skilled union laborers and
semi-skilled volunteers. All work completed is free for the homeowner.
Projects are limited because of time and funding. All individual projects started will be completed.
Homeowners from Jersey City are welcome to apply to have their homes selected to be improved. We review all applications, and begin the selection process. Members of Rebuilding Together Jersey City will schedule an initial consultation to explain the process fully. After evaluating the home, over a course of two visits, we notify the homeowner if their house has been selected. Rebuilding Together Day is the first Saturday after Easter. If pre-work is needed, it will be scheduled with the homeowner prior to Rebuilding Together Day.
